Squam Lake ice photos by Eric Morse during the winter of 2016. The Squam Lake ice landscape is constantly changing with open water, new black ice, breaking ice plates pushed on top of each other and now finally snow covered ice with wind drifts.

The landscape around Squam Lake is phenomenal in winter, something many of the summer visitors to the area never get to see. On a recent Kitewing Skiing tour around Squam, I stopped at Three Sisters and took this photo of the rock formations looking to the north.

Today is the 17th anniversary of my engagement to my beautiful wife Amy. On this day in 1996 we paddled kayaks through the breaking lake ice to Bowman Island, where we would become Caretakers for three incredible summers for Squam Lakes Association. On the trip back the ice drifted between Kimball Island and Center Harbor Neck, making a difficult passage back to Sturtevant Bay. We persevered on that day and for the past 15 years of marriage with two incredible children, now ages 9 and 13. Here are some Squam Lake photos as the ice is breaking up at Needle Point at Rockywold-Deephaven Camps.
